Ukraine: Protesters smash and storm Chernovsty government building
Anti-government protesters stormed the Chernovtsy Regional State Government building on Friday, after breaking down entrance doors, smashing glass windows and tearing down government signs. Members of the crowd grabbed riot police officer shields and used physical force to gain access to the building.Police officers were blockading the entrance of the building and threw two gas grenades into the crowd. Afterwards Chernovtsy's governor, Michail Papiev, pleaded with demonstrators to calm down and retreat, however protesters persevered and took control of the building. Reports indicate Mikhail Gaynicheru, chairman of the regional council, suffered injuries during the clashes, and police had to evacuate all administration employees.
